On March 6, 2018, CWT officially launched an Organic Spice range of products under the Tee’s Taste™ brand. The first product was a fish spice mix called “Fish Smix”. Some four months later, on July 19, 2018, we launched the second Tee’s Taste™ spice mix, the “Stew and Chicken Smix.”

The launch of the Tee’s Taste™ range of products was the culmination of a journey which began nearly a decade ago when the idea to put together a dry organic spice mix was born; an idea which remained in the conceptual stage for years, before suddenly becoming a reality in a matter of months thanks to a series of largely fortuitous events, among them, my trip to Cameroon in December 2017.

I had always dreamed of putting together and marketing an easy-easy-to-use mix of dry organic spices that could be preserved easily and naturally without artificial enhancers or preservatives; spices that would maintain their natural aroma for long periods of time and would be used with a wide array of African and non-African dishes. The challenge had always been to identify the right types of spices that would have a universal appeal and work with both African and non-African dishes/foods.

In December 2017, I visited Cameroon after nearly a decade, and my trip gave me the opportunity to brush up on my knowledge of popular/most commonly-used natural dry spices – their properties, their uses, and most significantly, their flavor and aroma. At the end of my trip, I bought samples of the key spices which I hoped would serve as the basis for my spice mix.

My first mission was to create a fish spice one which, unlike the typical Cameroonian (grilled and baked) fish spice, be multipurpose and versatile enough to be used on a wide range of other foods.

As soon as I arrived in the States, I began testing different spice blends, and after just a couple of tries, I found a winning formula not just for the fish spice mix but also for the Stew and Chicken spice mix which I planned to launch later during their year.

What came out of my testing was a skillful mixture of natural dry African spices which, when used as a dry rub or mixed with fresh ingredients, brings a unique flavor and aroma to food.
